Sometimes, some options in Apple applications should be there and they are just not there. iTunes has a missing option which is to listen to audio podcasts faster than they were recorded. I like to be efficient in my life and listening to audio podcasts at regular speed just makes me waste so much time. Surprisingly, this option is available on the iPhone and the iPod touch, but not in iTunes on the computer. I don't get it because the CPU on a computer is a lot faster than a mobile device so it should be able to speed up the podcast no problem. Even the old iPod video has the option of speeding up audiobooks.
Well, I found a way to listen to my podcast at a faster speed right on the computer. All you need is the old QuickTime Player 7. If you are using Snow Leopard, remember, by default, QuickTime X is installed and you need to install QuickTime Player 7 as an option. Then, all you need to do is to find the podcast file you want to listen to somewhere on your hard drive (use Spotlight if necessary). Then open that file with QuickTime 7 instead of iTunes. Then go under Window and A/V Controls. You will see a control to choose the speed going from 1/2x way up to 3x. It is not as convenient as listening to it from iTunes, but at least you know you are not wasting time. And let's hope Apple will include this feature in the next version of iTunes.
