There has been a lot of talk about iPhone viruses for jailbroken iPhones lately, so here is how to secure your iPhone. The latest viruses aren't actually exploiting a vulnerability in the iPhone's firmware, it is just using SSH that has been left open combined with the default password "alpine" which Apple uses on all iPhones. The main reason why non-jailbroken iPhones aren't vulnerable is that Apple doesn't enables SSH by default. The easiest way to secure your iPhone is simply to change the root password so that it is not the default "alpine". The steps are:
1. Open Terminal on your iPhone (or install it through Cydia if you don't have it).
2. Type "su" and press "Enter".
3. Enter the current root password which is "alpine" by default.
4. Type "passwd" and press "Enter".
5. The iPhone will now ask you for a new password. Enter the new password you've chosen and press "Enter".
6. Type your new password again and press "Enter".
7. That's it! Your iPhone is now immune to the current iPhone viruses.
